Comprehensive Ophthalmologist Eye Disease and Surgery 
Joseph A. Matz, M.D., earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College. He then received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania earning the TUSM Kutz and Michael Herbert Scholarships.
Dr. Matz completed his medical internship at Abington Jefferson Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania and returned to Temple University Hospital to complete his Ophthalmology residency.
Dr. Matz is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Medical Association and Pennsylvania Medical Society.
Dr. Matz is seeing patients in our Pottsville, Wyomissing, Easton and Shamokin offices, specializing in comprehensive ophthalmology and general eye disease with a focus on standard and laser-assisted cataract surgery, standard and specialty intraocular lenses, micro-stents/shunt devices, and other minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries.
In his free time, Dr. Matz is an avid downhill skier and marathon runner. He is always eager to discuss gastronomy, technology, music and philosophy. He enjoys most of all time at home with his wife and three children, who bring him lots of joy and endless entertainment.
