Melissa Neuwelt, M.D. is a board-certified vitreo-retinal surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases and conditions. Dr. Neuwelt completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Biology with an area of concentration in International Health.
She went on to receive her medical degree at The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. Dr. Neuwelt completed a transitional internship at Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, California, followed by ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Neuwelt concluded her training with a vitreo-retinal fellowship at Associated Retinal Consultants in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Dr. Neuwelt has received numerous academic honors throughout her training. During her residency training at Wills Eye Hospital, Dr. Neuwelt was named Co-Chief Resident.
Dr. Neuwelt has authored and co-authored numerous research publications and has presented many lectures and seminars on various ocular conditions and anomalies. Dr. Neuwelt resides in the Philadelphia area with her husband, Dr. Caesar Luo. She enjoys running, biking, practicing yoga, skiing and traveling.
