Diabetic Eye Disease and Glaucoma Management
Joseph E. Ellwood, O.D. is an optometrist who joined our practice in July of 2013. Dr.Ellwood sees patients in our new Oaks location and our Allentown office.
Dr. Ellwood earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. He received his optometric degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. While at Ursinus College, Dr. Ellwood was a four year member of the men’s tennis team, serving as captain in his senior season. He was granted membership in the Cub & Key Society, for male leaders on campus distinguished by high scholastic standing, participation in extracurricular activities, and service to the college community. Dr. Ellwood was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society as well. Upon graduating from Ursinus, he received the Wagman Commencement Award, given to one male senior who displays high morals and character.
Dr. Ellwood graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University with highest honors and was recognized for having the highest academic average in the class of 2013. He also received awards for excellence in primary care, contact lenses, and low vision rehabilitation. He is currently a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society and American Optometric Association. Dr. Ellwood has recently become a contributor for KMK Educational Services. He writes practice questions that help prepare current optometry students for their national board examinations. Approximately 85% of third year optometry students use a KMK review course to prepare for their board examinations. Dr. Ellwood resides in West Norristown with his wife, Laura, a math teacher. Dr. Ellwood enjoys playing tennis, golf, and soccer, as well as spending time with family and friends.
