Education/Resources: The ReSTOR Lens

AcrySof ReSTOR IOL is for cataract patients with or without presbyopia. Presbyopia is when a person, usually over the age of 40, has to wear reading glasses or bifocals to compensate for the aging of the eye.

The ReSTOR lens is designed to allow patients to see clearly at all distances without glasses. A full range of vision is provided by the ReSTOR lens. Regular lenses only provide you with distance vision and may require you to wear reading glasses.

The acutal cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. An anesthetic will be used prior to the surgery on your eye and will feel little or no discomfort. A tiny incision will be made in the eye allowing the surgeon to break up and remove the cloudy cataract. Once the cataract is removed, the ReSTOR lens will be inserted. After the procedure, you will see the doctor within 24 hours and you will need to take prescription eye drops to guard against infection.

WIth any surgurical procedure there are risks. Our doctors can provide you with more detailed information about potential risks and benefits to help decide whether the ReSTOR lens is right for you.
